Patti Newton's desperate plea to her troubled son

<p>Patti Newton has issued a desperate plea to her son Matthew, who has spent two years out of the spotlight and has built a new life in America. </p> <p>According to <a href="https://www.nowtolove.com.au/womansday" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Woman's Day</em></a>, Patti is determined to see her family reunited, as she wishes for Matthew to return to Australia. </p> <p>After a series of scandals, Matthew fled the country and has since created a new life for himself in Texas with his <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/relationships/huge-matthew-newton-mystery-confirmed-during-bert-s-funeral" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wife</a> Catherine Schneiderman. </p> <p>Matthew was arrested twice in 2012 following altercations in Miami, following a string of scandals in Australia, including several domestic violence allegations a charge of assault. </p> <p>Despite her son now living his best life in the US, Patti desperately wants him to return home. </p> <p>"Moving to Texas is the best thing either of them could have done. They're loving a new outdoorsy life and they're both looking and feeling great," a source told the magazine.</p> <p>"[But] Patti desperately wants them to come home to Australia."</p> <p>It's been several years since Matthew returned home, as he chose <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/family-pets/why-matt-newton-won-t-be-attending-bert-s-funeral" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not to return</a> for his father Bert's funeral in 2021. </p> <p>Matthew, who suffers from bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and has a history of addiction, refrains from the spotlight after having a stint in the Australian entertainment scene with a series of TV shows and movies. </p> <p><em>Image credits: Ten</em></p>

Patti Newton's candid confession two years on from Bert's death

<p>Patti Newton has made a heartbreaking confession about her wonderful relationship with her late husband Bert. </p> <p>The veteran entertainer, 78, told the <a href="https://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/life-and-relationships/bert-will-always-be-the-love-of-my-life-patti-newton-20231115-p5ek53.html?collection=p5eoey&amp;gb=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Sydney Morning Herald</em></a> that she is still haunted by Bert's death in 2021, and admitted he will always be her one true love. </p> <p>"Bert will always be the love of my life. I'll never stop thinking about him," she told the publication. </p> <p>She then revealed some of the heartfelt ways she keeps Bert's memory alive since he passed away on October 30th 2021, after a long and complicated illness.</p> <p>"When Bert was in Epworth Hospital, he had this little wooden cross. A friend of mine had given it to him. Bert used to pick it up from the tray and kiss it," she said.</p> <p>"He'd hold it for a minute and then put it down. I take it to the theatre with me and before a show I pick it up and kiss it."</p> <p>"I hold it to my heart as he did and say, 'Come on Bert, we're on.' He comes on stage with me."</p> <p>Patti made the heartbreaking admission just weeks after Patti and Bert's 49th wedding anniversary. </p> <p>Bert has long <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/family-pets/how-bert-newton-inspired-patti-s-new-role-on-the-stage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inspired</a> Patti's career on the stage, as she previously shared how she believes her role in the Mary Poppins musical was brought to her by her late husband. </p> <p>Speaking candidly with Perth's 6PR radio station, Patti admitted she had a bittersweet feeling about returning to the stage without Bert. </p> <p>"I love a lot of musical theatre and Bert's done some fabulous shows, he and I did a couple together and musical theatre is something that gets in your blood," she told <em>6PR's Perth Live with Oliver Peterson</em>.</p> <p>"When I was offered this role, it wasn't long after Bert passed and I was very lost and didn't quite know what I was going to do."</p> <p>"Then this came and I thought to myself, 'I think Bert sent this to me' because it's come straight from heaven, it's a beautiful role."</p> <p><em>Image credits: Instagram</em></p>

Young and the Restless actor's cause of death revealed

<p>Award-winning soap actor Billy Miller's family have spoken up about his official cause of death. </p> <p>News of <em>The Young and the Restles</em>s <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/young-and-the-restless-actor-dies-at-just-43" target="_blank" rel="noopener">actor's death</a> shocked the world, as he tragically passed away just two days shy of his 44th birthday.</p> <p>Miller’s devastated mother, Patricia, released a statement to the<em> Soap Opera Digest o</em>n Wednesday to confirm that the actor's cause of death was suicide, and debunk any rumours or speculation behind his death. </p> <p>“I want to personally thank the many fans & personal friends for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers & condolences sent to me and my family on the devastating death of my beautiful son BJ — Billy Miller,” she began the statement. </p> <p>“He fought a long hard valiant battle with bipolar depression for years. He did everything he could to control the disease.</p> <p>“He loved his family, his friends and his fans but in the end the disease won the fight and he surrendered his life.</p> <p>"The other causes of death being told are not true. I wish they were but they just aren’t.</p> <p>“We all loved him so much and are desperately trying to deal with our loss. I will have nothing further to say. Young and the Restless actor dies at just 43

<p>Award-winning soap actor Billy Miller has passed away, just two days before his 44th birthday. </p> <p>Miller's manager confirmed the devastating news in a statement to <a href="https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/billy-miller-dead-the-young-and-the-restless-1235725784/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Variety</em></a>, saying the actor has been "struggling with manic depression when he died".</p> <p>The actor was best known for his roles in <em>General Hospital</em> and <em>The Young and the Restless</em>, winning three Daytime Emmy's for his portray in the soaps. </p> <p>Billy's name was put on the map after a role in <em>All My Children</em>, and then signing on to become a model.</p> <p>He went on to have credits in some of the biggest shows in the US, such as <em>NCIS</em>, and <em>CSI: Crime Scene Investigation</em>, as well as Clint Eastwood blockbuster <em>American Sniper</em>.</p> <p>Former colleagues of Billy's have been devastated by the news of his passing, with many taking to social media to share fond memories and express their heartbreak. </p> <p><em>The Young and the Restless</em> alumni Eileen Davidson said she was "so sad to hear of Billy Miller's passing".</p> <p>"His infectious charm and warmth left lasting impressions on all of us who were lucky enough to have him in our lives," she continued.</p> <p>"I'm gonna miss that mischievous smile. Love you Billy."</p> <p><em>General Hospital</em> co-star TK Weaver told fans it was "hard to find words" after learning of the tragedy.</p> <p>"You always gave me such good advice. You were always there for me. You were an amazing person. Billy Miller, I'll never forget you."</p> <p>In another emotional tribute, <em>The Young and the Restless</em> star Adrienne Frantz said, "Billy Miller you lit up every room you walked into with your light, your chair and you gave the best hugs ever".</p> <p>"I'll always remember the laughs and the great times we had together. I hope you've found peace, my dear friend. "I'll never get over him not being here," she said at the time. "I've got photographs everywhere, and I have a chat with him most nights." </p> <p>Their extraordinary relationship, a beautiful tapestry of laughter, love and resilience, is something Patti holds dear. "We had a wonderful relationship," she said. "We had ups and downs like everybody has, but we did have a fabulous marriage. We came together, and we always had a laugh, and I think that's probably what I miss the most."</p> <p>Since Bert's passing, Patti has bravely embraced life while grappling with grief, determined not to be consumed by it. She finds strength in the memories they shared, a reminder of the love that will forever bind them.</p> <p>"People say, 'My mum lost Dad and she never leaves the house, she never puts makeup on, she never wants to go anywhere or do anything and she's become an old lady'," Patti reflected, "Well, that isn't me. Either I'm going to die with Bert or I'm going to keep living, and I think he would want me to keep living."</p> <p>Bert and Patti's love story is one for the ages, a golden couple who walked hand-in-hand for 46 extraordinary years. They exchanged vows in Camberwell on November 9, 1974, and together, they lovingly nurtured two beautiful children, Lauren and Matthew.</p> <p>As we celebrate what would have been Bert's 85th birthday, we are reminded that love knows no boundaries, not even those of time and space. Groom’s tragic update after bride killed on wedding day

<p>A US man whose bride died on their wedding day after an alleged drunk driver rear-ended their golf cart is recovering at home and planning his wife’s funeral, his family revealed.</p> <p>Aric Hutchinson, from South Carolina, suffered severe injuries, leaving him with bleeding in his brain, two broken legs, facial fractures and a broken vertebrae in his back, according to a post on GoFundMe, written by his mother, Annette Hutchinson.</p> <p>The 36-year-old and his new wife, Samantha Miller, 34, had just left their wedding reception when the accused drunk driver Jamie Komoroski crashed her car into the golf cart the newlyweds were riding on. Ms Miller sadly died instantly. Two family members on the same golf cart suffered injuries.</p> <p>Ms Hutchinson shared that her son is now “physically recovering at home while trying to come to terms with the loss of his beautiful wife. Now he is doing the unimaginable of planning Sam’s funeral along with her family”.</p> <p>“We are missing Sam more than anything. She instantly fit into our family from the first day Aric and Sam met. She was everything to my son and changed him for the better,” she continued.</p> <p>“She could light up a room with her presence and had an ease about her. They shared many hopes and dreams for their future, including children and building a house.</p> <p>“What started as the happiest day for Aric and Sam ended with a tragedy … our hearts are broken along with the Millers’.”</p> <p>Ms Komoroski has been jailed without bond, and charged with three counts of driving under the influence causing death and reckless vehicular homicide. Authorities claimed the 25-year-old was driving at 104km/h in a 40km/h zone and reportedly only hit the breaks of her Toyota Camry right before the crash.</p> <p>Ms Komoroski told police she had consumed a tequila shot and one beer an hour prior, but refused to take a field sobriety test following the collision. A blood test was later conducted at a hospital, the results of which have not been released.</p> <p>In a statement to <em>Fox News</em>, Ms Komoroski's lawyers urged the public not to “rush to judgement”.</p> <p>Ms Miller’s mother Lisa revealed her heartbreaking final exchange with her beloved daughter.</p> <p>Speaking to <em>WCIV</em>, Lisa Miller said that “on the beginning of the golf car ride, [Samantha] said, ‘I wish this night could go on forever.’”</p> <p>“[It was] the best night of her life,” she added.</p> <p>Ms Miller said she was unaware of “what the distraction was” that caused the accident, but Ms Komoroski “literally ran into my daughter going 65 miles an hour”.</p> <p>“Sammie and Aric were on the back of the golf cart and so she basically just whammed into my child.”</p> <p>The bride’s sister, Mandi Jenkins, told <em>WCIV</em>, “That person made a careless mistake. And it’s not a mistake. "Why would you want second best?" Patti Newton's heart-wrenching confession

<p>Patti Newton has made a heart-wrenching confession about the future of her love life, as she continues to grieve the loss of her husband. </p> <p>Speaking on 2DAY FM’s <em>Hughesy, Ed &amp; Erin</em> breakfast show on Wednesday morning, Patti opened up about life after losing her beloved husband Bert in October 2021, saying she is not open to the possibility of finding love again. </p> <p>“Never. When you have the best, why would you want second best?” Patti, 78, said.</p> <p>“He was it for me. I fell in love at a very young age and I’ve never looked at anyone else. I’ve never even kissed anyone else.”</p> <p>When asked by Hughesy what Bert would think if she dated again, Patti said he would not be very happy. </p> <p>“I reckon there would be a huge clap of thunder and probably a strike of lightning. If he could hit me, it would hit,” she joked. </p> <p>“He used to say to me, ‘You think you’d ever marry again? Yeah, you would, wouldn’t you?’ And I would say, ‘No, I wouldn’t.’ And he said, ‘I’ll keep my eye on you.’”</p> <p>Patti went on to say her life without Bert is "very difficult", admitting that her grief has "gotten worse" over time. </p> <p>“Look, it’s very difficult,” Patti said. “People say time will heal. Well, I think it’s getting worse rather than better.” </p> <p>“I do think because I’m so loved by my family and because I have grandchildren around me all the time – we only live around the corner – I see them a lot. They’re beautiful kids. I supposed that’s taken a bit of the sadness away.”</p> <p>This year would've marked the couple's 49th wedding anniversary, as Patti said they had a great relationship, despite going through ups and downs like any other couple. </p> <p>“We laughed a lot and talked a lot. We were very different people, but I think sometimes that works – it’s good if you’re different,” she said on air. “We were extremely happy. I hate people who say, ‘We never had a cross word’. Veteran honoured following Kokoda Track death

<p>Paul ‘Dusty’ Miller, veteran and beloved father of five, has passed away of a suspected heart attack while walking the Kokoka Track. </p> <p>Paul, who had joined the Australian Army in 1991 and experienced four deployments, had been trekking as part of a fundraising effort by fellow veterans and first responders with the support group Operation Unity SA. </p> <p>Paul was on the second day of the challenging hike with his 17-year-old son, Aaron, when the tragedy occurred. His partner of 23 years, Amanda, confirmed the devastating news. </p> <p>“Paul wore many hats - a Father of 5, Partner, Son, Brother, Uncle, mate, Veteran, an even (46th class), sports fan, and a passionate advocate for veterans,” she wrote on Facebook. </p> <p>“As many of you will know, Paul and Aaron went to Kokoda together last week. Unfortunately on the second day, Paul had what is believed to be a heart attack. Despite all efforts of assistance and of CPR, Paul was airlifted out and it has been confirmed that he had passed away on arrival at the hospital.</p> <p>She went on to offer thanks for the efforts to revive Paul, and for the safe return of their son, Aaron, before noting that “in true Dusty style, he went out with a bang - doing something that he has always wanted to do … Kokoda.”</p> <p>Meanwhile, Paul’s daughter Sarah shared her own emotional tribute to social media, writing that her “whole word [was] falling apart.” </p> <p>“I still don’t want to believe it,” she said. “I still want to believe that Dad will call me and tell me everything will be okay.</p> <p>“My best friend, my hero, my safety blanket is gone, but I know his memories will live on forever and I will always be meeting people that loved and knew him.”</p> <p>The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade released a statement of their own to confirm the news, sharing that they were “providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who died in Papua New Guinea. We send our deepest condolences to the family.”</p> <p>When Operation Unity SA shared the news of Paul’s passing - and Amanda’s original post - the late veteran was met with an outpouring of love, with condolences flowing for his family memories, and his surviving legacy. </p> <p>“He was a colleague, a mate and brother to many. Dusty was always there for others. I will miss my mate and brother. Till we meet again in Valhalla big man,” wrote one friend. “Lest we forget.”</p> <p>“RIP Ole mate glad [I] had the opportunity to know you and your caring nature,” wrote another. “Thanks for being a part of our lives you will be sorely missed by all mate.” </p> <p>“All of our love and condolences to Paul's family. Paul was a true champion and a gentleman, who made the ultimate sacrifice serving others, again, for which there truly is no honour great enough,” shared Diving Veterans &amp; First Responders Program.</p> <p>And as another friend said, everyone would be “sending love and thoughts to your whole family and everyone Paul touched during his life. Quaden Bayles' blockbuster new role

<p>A young Indigenous boy with dwarfism, who captured hearts after an emotional plea to his school bullies went viral, has been offered a role in the new Mad Max movie. </p> <p>Quaden Bayles, an 11-year-old Queensland boy with achondroplasia, <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/quaden-bayles-puts-vicious-rumours-of-fake-age-to-rest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">went viral in 2020</a> after his mother live-streamed a video on Facebook following the latest cruel bullying incident.</p> <p>The heartbreaking video, in which Quaden asks for a knife so he can kill himself, captured the world’s attention and Quaden received support from celebrities like Australia’s A-listers such as Hugh Jackman, Mark Hamill and Jon Bernthal.</p> <p>The boy’s anguish was also seen by Oscar-winning Australian filmmaker George Miller, who invited Quaden to appear in his upcoming film <em>Three Thousand Years of Longing</em>, which is due for release next month.</p> <p>Miller was so impressed with Quaden’s performance in the film, which also stars Hollywood heavyweights Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, that he invited him to appear as an extra in his next film <em>Furiosa.</em></p> <p><em>Furiosa</em> is set to be the fifth instalment in the Mad Max franchise and a prequel to 2015’s smash hit <em>Mad Max: Fury Road</em>.</p> <p>“It was good for us and it was good for him,” Miller told Good Weekend magazine.</p> <p>“And he did such a good job that he’s got a small role in <em>Furiosa</em>.”</p> <p>Due for release in 2024, <em>Furiosa</em> will star Anya Taylor-Joy and Australia’s Chris Hemsworth, and is expected to focus on the origins of Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa character, who was introduced in the six-time Academy Award winning <em>Mad Max: Fury Road</em>.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images / Supplied</em></p>

Rest In Peace beautiful Olivia," added a third.</p> <p>Bert Newton unfortunately died last year following a health battle, at age 83. It was an emotional night and I was so happy to be there x.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The mother-of-six’s touching post was soon flooded with supportive comments from friends in the industry, including Rhona Burchmore, radio presenter Jane Kennedy, and actress Lucy Durack.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Your mumma and her beautiful words was the highlight of the evening - you were both so brave and so wonderful that you had each other there - Bert would have been so proud,” Burchmore wrote.</p> <p dir="ltr">“You mum was indeed incredible and your dad would have been so very proud of you both xxx,” Kennedy added.</p> <p dir="ltr">“You and your mum did such a beautiful job Lauren,” Durack commented. “I loved watching at home and seeing you beam your good energy to her from your seat. Bert would have been beyond proud of you both xoxo.”</p> <p dir="ltr">On the night, Patti began her tribute before she even took to the stage, donning a silver necklace that read ‘Bert’.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I actually didn’t think that I was going to be able to do this tonight, it’s still very raw and I’ll never get over him not being here,” Patti told the crowd.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I have been his partner for 57 years, it is a long time,” she added to thunderous applause. “Thank you but I don’t need applause because I have loved every minute of those 57 years.</p> <p dir="ltr">“He did say to me when we got married, we will have a few ups and downs, but it will never be boring. And he was so right. Patti Newton's heartwarming Logies moment

<p dir="ltr">Patti Newton took to the Logies stage to a standing ovation, before introducing and presenting the newly renamed ‘Bert Newton award for the Most Popular Presenter.</p> <p dir="ltr">Standing in front of an early photo of herself with her late husband, Patti spoke about her grief and how she knew Bert would always be with her.</p> <p dir="ltr">"I actually didn't think I was going to be able to do this tonight, because it is still very raw and I will never get over him not being here," she told the audience.</p> <p dir="ltr">"But I know he is with me. And here... he is inside me,” she added, going on to explain the ‘Bert’ necklace she was spotted wearing on the red carpet earlier that night.</p> <p dir="ltr">"My daughter had this Bert [necklace] made for me, so I will be wearing this forever around my neck,” Patti said</p> <p dir="ltr">“I will know who I am and when I cannot remember anymore, I will say who's that? It will be Bert."</p> <p dir="ltr">Patti reflected on her late husband’s “bravery”, the great experiences he had throughout his TV career, and one of the things he really loved.</p> <p dir="ltr">"He really did live his dream," she said, "but the one thing he really loved was this show, the Logies. Patti Newton's first televised interview since losing Bert

<p>In her first televised interview since her late husband died, Patti Newton as revealed the sad question Bert asked her before he passed away. </p> <p>Appearing on <em>The Morning Show</em>, Patti recalled Bert's remarkable outlook on life, and shared a sweet conversation the couple had while he was in hospital. </p> <p>“I went in one day and he was very upset sitting in the wheelchair and I said, ‘What’s the matter? Has something happened?’ And he said, ‘No, I just want to know whether I have been a good person and whether you think I have done an OK job through all of this,’” Patti recalled.</p> <p>“And I had to say to him that out of everyone I know, all the people in his position and in his line of work, I do not know anybody else that would have handled having a leg amputated and being so, you know – not being able to move or go anywhere – so well.”</p> <p>She continued on, saying “I was so proud of him because, to be honest, it was a joy. I would go in every morning and I would ask how he was and he would say, ‘Oh, I had the most beautiful shower’. </p> <p>“I think that anybody who can be happy and feel so good about having a lovely shower, you know, you have got to admire that I think. <p dir="ltr">In the <em>Over60 “5 Minutes With”</em> series, we ask book writers about their literary habits and preferences. Next up is Patti Miller, who is debuting her novel <em>True Friends</em> - <a href="https://www.uqp.com.au/books/true-friends" target="_blank" rel="noopener">out now</a>!</p> <p dir="ltr">Patti Miller is an Australian writer and holds a Bachelor in Communications and a Masters in Writing from the University of Technology. She is the author of 10 books and numerous articles and essays that have been published in national newspapers and literary magazines.</p> <p dir="ltr">In <em>True Friends</em>, a memoir, Patti reflects on the making (and unmaking) of some of her most treasured friendships, the importance of this relationship in our lives, how we choose our friends and how they shape our lives.</p> <p dir="ltr">Over60 spoke to Patti and asked about where her love of writing came from, and how her experiences helped shape her book <em>True Friends</em>.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>1. How did you come up with the idea for <em>True Friends</em>?</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">To be truthful, it came more from a feeling than an idea. I was boarding a flight in Paris and suddenly saw someone ahead of me on the air-bridge who looked like a friend who had recently ended her friendship with me. It wasn’t her, but I noted the turmoil it caused in me and once I was on the plane I started taking notes about it. I realised that while the endings of romantic relationships were often the subject of novels, memoirs, poems, song and films, the hurt of a friendship ending was rarely written about. By the time I arrived back in Sydney, I knew I had a book to write.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>2. What do you look for when making friends?</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">I think I am drawn to someone’s energy – their engagement with the world, their attention to it. I value self-awareness, openness, thoughtfulness, kindness, interest in and connection to the world. And then if I find out they like books and reading – well that’s a big plus!</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>3. If you're comfortable sharing, what was the greatest friendship loss that happened to you?</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">There’s two kinds of losses in friendship – a break-up, and death. A friend has recently died and I have felt that loss deeply as she was formative for me. She shaped my thinking and my life to a certain extent. But I have also lost a friendship due to break up, which was bewildering and which became a central thread in <em>True Friends</em>.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>4. What is your advice for your readers who are looking to make new friends?</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">It’s so different for everyone that I don’t think I can give advice. Generally though, it’s a matter of being open to others. Listening to them, asking questions, rather than talking about yourself too much. That way, you can start connecting to them.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>5. What is the importance in knowing oneself and one's friends?</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">I’m going to quote from <em>True Friends</em> to answer this one: “Friends also share similar versions of the world... Together you and I not only acknowledge the reality of each other, but of our world. It is really there, that stand of gum trees, that mad leader, that childhood we told each other about, it all exists. Because we agree that it does.”</p> <p dir="ltr">That is, in knowing yourself and others, you re-affirm each other’s version of existence.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>6. What book(s) do you think people should read?</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">Well, clearly <em>“True Friends”</em>!! But also the wonderful set of novels by Elena Ferrante, starting with <em>“My Brilliant Friend”</em>. They are the best novels about a long friendship that I’ve come across. My book is nonfiction, drawing on my own experience, but I suspect Ferrante’s novels also draw on her own experience of friendship.</p>

Patti Newton commemorates engagement anniversary to Bert

<p dir="ltr">On what would’ve been their 48th “engagement anniversary”, Patti Newton has paid tribute to her late husband and his proposal.</p> <p dir="ltr">Patti took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a photo of the couple when they were newly engaged aboard a cruise ship in 1974.</p> <p dir="ltr">She wrote, “Bert and I were engaged today in 1974 on the QE11.”</p> <p dir="ltr">“Donna Fayette and I had been entertaining on board for 8 months. Patti Newton shares unseen photo of Bert

But their love always remained strong in the 47 years they had together. </span></p> <p><span>"I hate it when people say they never had a cross word — you can't go through life being holier than thou," she said. </span></p> <p><span>"I feel we understood one another, we had great respect for each other. My heart is broken 💔”. The couple were married for 46 years when Bert passed away in palliative care last month following a tumultuous year that included a leg amputation.</p> <p dir="ltr">Many sent their love and support to Patti by commenting on the post, including Danielle Spencer, who wrote, “All my love Patti. In her eulogy, read by radio and TV announcer Peter Smith, Lauren wrote, “Saying goodbye has been heartbreaking for us all, especially Mum”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“They loved one another so much, and I know how he waited until she left the room to take his last breath, because while she was with him, he couldn't have gone.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Patti had<span> </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://oversixty.com.au/news/news/patti-newton-just-missed-bert-s-last-breath" target="_blank">previously spoken</a><span> </span>about missing Bert’s last breath by mere moments, saying, “I missed him, but maybe he didn’t want me to be there for his last breath.”</p> <p dir="ltr">“I left at ten past seven, and I was just pulling around to come into my drive and I get the call to say he'd taken his last breath at 7.22pm.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The<span> </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://oversixty.com.au/entertainment/tv/all-the-sadness-and-laughter-of-bert-newton-s-state-funeral" target="_blank">beloved television personality’s funeral</a><span> </span>included speeches from colleagues and friends such as Eddie McGuire, Daryl Somers, and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, in addition to eulogies from children Lauren and Matthew.
